Ramadan is a month of togetherness, fasting, reflection and discipline. It’s a month that requires us to abstain from food, drinks and immoral acts that can render our fasting invalid. Muslims fast for more than 12 hours during Ramadan — and it’s customary to break when the sun has set. Around this time, the throat will be parched, and refreshing drinks will always come in handy. Hence, we’ve compiled a few refreshing Ramadan drink recipes you can prepare at home.

These drinks are refreshing and nonalcoholic, and your family will love them. They’re also nutritious since most of the ingredients are mainly fruits. In fact, they’re very healthy and can serve as a great option after water.

1.Watermelon and lemon juice

Preparation Time: 7 minutes

Serving size: 4

Ingredients

  • Medium-sized watermelon cut into chunks
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • Mint leaves, for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Blend the watermelon chunks in a juice maker or blender for 30 seconds until it’s fully blended.
  2. Strain the liquid with a strainer if the watermelon has seeds. But skip if the watermelon is seedless.
  3. Add lemon juice and sugar to the watermelon juice
  4. Serve ice in 4 cups and pour the juice over it 
  5. Garnish with mint leaf, which is optional, and serve.

2. Black plum juice

Preparation Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Lemon slices for garnish
  • Mint leaves
  • 1kg Black plums
  • 1 teaspoon black salt

Directions

  1. Add the water to a pan and cook the Black plums for about 15 minutes on medium to high heat.
  2. Leave to cool, and remove the seeds.
  3. Blend the pulp.
  4. Add the plum pulp, salt, sugar, cumin powder, chilli powder, black salt and cook for another 10 minutes.
  5. Leave to cool completely.
  6. Get a cup, add ice cubes, lemon juice, black pepper and the plum concentrate.
  7. Garnish with lemon slices and mint leaves, and serve.

3. Citrus juice

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Serving size: 8

Ingredients

  • 1 small lemon
  • 1 medium-sized lime
  • 3 cups grape juice
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • ½ medium-sized orange
  • ½ small apple
  • 3 cups sparkling water

Directions

  1. Slice the apple, lemon, lime, or orange thinly and pour inside a pitcher. 
  2. Pour in the juice and mix very well.
  3. Refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.
  4. Add the sparkling water when you’re about to serve 
  5. Serve over ice cubes.

4. Lavender and lemon juice

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Serving size: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • ¾ cup sugar, granulated
  • 3 cups sparkling water, chilled
  • 1 ½ cups lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp dried lavender, culinary grade
  • Lavender sprig and lemon wedge (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix the sugar with the water and lavender in a pan and boil on low heat.
  2. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Remove and set aside to cool
  4. Strain the lavender and pour the syrup into a pitcher
  5. Add the lemon juice and sparkling water.
  6. Garnish with lavender sprig and lemon wedge if you desire.

5. Blackberries drink

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Serving size: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 40 ounces sparkling lime water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges

Directions

  1. Mash the blackberries using a fork in the bottom of a glass.
  2. Add the honey and mix.
  3. Get a glass and pour in the ice cubes.
  4. Add in the honey mixture and garnish with lime wedges or mint leaves.
  5. Serve and enjoy.

 6. Basil leaves and watermelon

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Serving size: 6

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ cup lime juice
  • ½ cup basil leaves
  • 8 cups seedless watermelon, cubed

Directions

  1. Blend the watermelon, basil, lime, and sugar.
  2. Strain, if you wish.
  3. Garnish with fresh basil and enjoy!

7. Cherries and orange slices

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Serving size: 7

Ingredients

  • 7 orange slices
  • 7 parts ginger beer
  • 7-part sparkling water
  • 7-part orange juice
  • 14 tbsp grenadine
  • 14 cherries

Directions

  1. Mix part sparkling water with one part orange juice, and mix with a part orange juice. Add the grenadine and stir.
  2. Arrange the cherries and orange slices on a skewer.
  3. Use it as garnish and serve with ice. 

8. Peach juice

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Serving size: 8

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 4 cups chilled water
  • ½ cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 cups peeled & deseeded peach chunks
  • Mint leaves (optional)

Directions

  1. Pour water into the blender, add peach, sugar, ice and lemon juice.
  2. Pulse. It’s smooth. 
  3. You can add ¼ cup of water to thin the juice if it’s too thick.
  4. Serve the drink in glasses and garnish with mint leaves.

9. Strawberries and mint juice

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Serving size: 15

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • 4 ½ cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • ¾ cup mint leaves
  • 7 ½ cup water
  • 3 cups ice cubes

Directions

  1. Pour all the ingredients except the ice and lemon juice into a blender and blend.
  2. Strain the liquid to get a smooth texture.
  3. Fill glasses with strawberry mixture, add ice cubes and the lemon juice.
  4. Serve and enjoy.

10. Mango drink

Preparation Time: 7 minutes

Serving size: 6

Ingredients

  • 4 ½ cup cold milk
  • 6 cups mango chunks
  • 6-10 tbsp sugar
  • Ice cubes

Directions

  1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend till it’s smooth
  2. Pour into glasses and serve chilled.
